You were asked to explain the way from your home to the nearest store. How would you do it?

By landmarks: you walk out, turn right at the pharmacy, third building, green sign. Easier to show than to tell: straight here, two steps there — my feet know the way. I'd start with how long it takes and then get to the directions: about seven minutes if you cut through the courtyard. I'd give a couple of options: this way, or through the courtyard — whichever suits the moment.
